According to the Finnish standard "Ympäristöministeriön asetusasuin-, majoitus- ja työtiloista annetun ympäristöministeriön asetuksen 5 §:n muuttamisesta":

The living area and the window of the accommodation window must be at least 1/10 of the room space. The window placement and other arrangement must ensure the brightness of the room, the view from the room, and the room's furnishings. The living room and accommodation window or part of it must be openable. If there is a window in the workspace, the aperture must be at least 1/10 of the room space of the workspace.

The distance in front of the living room's main window to the opposite or adjacent building must be at least equal to the height of the opposite building, measured from the floor level of the room. However, in front of the main window, there must be an unbuilt space up to a distance of at least 8 meters. In a small house, the distance between the plot or the building site may be smaller, taking into account the requirements of comfort, however, the 45 degree angle of light in relation to the floor level of the room is fulfilled.

So, the Finnish standard as part of Naviate Daylight automatically checks three things:

  1. Each living room (space, or area, depending on what you select) must have a minimum window-to-floor ratio of 10%. The checkbox "requires daylight" can be enabled to set this 10% requirement. The required ratio of 10% will then be saved to the room property, once you click "save parameters"
  2. If a window of a calculated room has obstructions closer than 8 meters right in front of the middle of the window, measured at floor level height, then a comment is added to the window and the room.
These obstructions can be anything; a tree, the topography surface, a wall, a (sketchup linked) mass, anything in a linked model or in the active design option et al.
  3. If a window of a calculated room has obstructions with the top of the element higher than a 45 degrees slope in front of the middle of the window, measured at floor level height, then a comment is added to the window and the room.

Daylight Calculation Settings

  • Set the calculation standard to "finnish"
  • Set the daylight area calculation per "rooms". Optionally you can set this to "Spaces" or "Areas" depending on how you have modeled the so called "living areas". Do not set this to "floor level" as this is not equal to the so called "living area".
  • Optionally set the glass material names according to the glass material names in your project.
  • Optionally set the balcony names in order to filter out the exterior rooms.

  • Optionally you can choose to automatically set the application language to Finnish as well, or keep using the application in English.
    • The Word Report will be generated in the language of the selected local standard, unrelated to the application language.
    • In the contrary, the Window Tags will be generated dependent on the application language.

Optionally the Daylight Factor can be calculated.
